I’ve taken 2011 off to focus on family and work. Two young kids take up a lot of time! Urban Mystic taking up a lot of time which I’m instead spending on family and work – The Typesetter and Africa on Paper.

On this blog I’ll keep you updated about events related to Urban Mystic and will write about topics related to spirituality relevant to contemporary urban city dwellers.
I’ve been doing spirituality professionally for fifteen years, have recently completed an Honours Degree in Religious Studies, and am planning a Masters Degree in Spirituality. Most of my experience has been with two kinds of people: Christians frustrated with church and those who consider themselves “spiritual, but not religious” or “spiritual not religious” who are frustrated with commercial spirituality. Both want to know Godde but find that the religious and spiritual groups they’re involved with don’t understand and support their journey or that they don’t relate to the culture, group or institution. Sure, there are many who happily adopt a faith and join a group representing it. This works for many. But what about those for whom this does not work? Urban Mystic is here for people who want to be spiritual not religious.
I’m developing a new approach to doing spirituality, one that is practically relevant to a contemporary urban lifestyle. Though rooted in my past experience, my goal is to develop a practice that is non-traditional, non-religious, non-intellectual and non-sectarian. This is accomplished by separating between times set aside for relationship and conversation and times set aside for spiritual practice. Here we get to think, dialogue and explore as best we can without compromising our priority on experience and connection. This practice stems from my own inner orientation toward Godde, finds fulfillment in my daily relationships, enables me to regularly connect with and experience Godde, and is practically relevant to a contemporary urban lifestyle.
